18th August 2010 may not be a date that goes down in global sporting history however on this day both Netball and Basketball worlds came together in Manchester.
Following a number of successful Coaches Workshops during the World Netball Series 2009 another workshop was arranged for local coaches but this time with a slight twist............
Local coaches were given the opportunity to observe Ex NBA basketball player John Amaechi coach his infamous Pro Basketball Camp at the Amaechi Basketball Centre, Whalley Range.
The Pro Basketball Camp gives young basketball players the opportunity to participate in what is the equivalent of NBA basketball pre season training. The 3 week camp includes and involves the participants taking part in rigorous conditioning training and learning new game skills.
Coaches were able to speak with Mr Amaechi about his coaching style, question the methods and drills used whilst relating them to Netball.
This opportunity was organised between the City of Manchester Netball Development Officer and Amaechi Performance Systems.
Helen Davies (City of Manchester NDO) “Today has been a great opportunity for local coaches to watch a different sport being delivered. Hopefully all those involved will be able to take something from the session back to their own clubs. I would like to thank John for giving us this opportunity, hopefully this is the start of sports in Manchester sharing information and good practice”
Ingrid Brown (Astra Netball Club)
“Thank you for organising this opportunity, I really enjoyed it”
